Pete was born the third of seven children to Robert and Doris (Case) Platten.

He graduated from West High School in Green Bay in 1962. He played all conference tackle in an undefeated season. Pete went on to attend St. Norbert College where he continued his football career as defensive end and became know as one of the Fearsome Foursome. He graduated in 1967 with a degree in Sociology and History.

He met and married Vicki Koehler and they had two daughters, Kate and Emily.

They moved to South Dakota where Pete pursued his career in social work.

In 1985 they moved to Tanana, Alaska, where Pete served two terms as Mayor and then many years as City Manager.

Pete was a avid outdoors-man and enjoyed hunting, fishing and dog sledding, both for sport and sustenance.

Pete was a master knife-maker whose creations featured beautifully carved handles and marketed worldwide.

While Pete was a captivation storyteller, he also told many bad jokes and thought of himself as "a pun-ny guy"

Pete's ashes were spread next to friend Ann DeNardo's on the Nowitna River across from their hunting camp. Where Pete spent many happy times visiting along with his brother and hunting partner, David Platten.
