Col. Richard Ely Selden, s. of Col. Samuel Selden and Elizabeth Ely, b. of record May 25, 1759 at Lyme, Conn. He d. Jan. 23, 1848 prob. at Hadlyme, Conn.

On Oct. 2, 1783 at Lyme, Conn., Richard m. 1) Desire Colt, dau. of Joseph Colt and Desire Pratt, b. of record Apr. 11, 1763 at Lyme, Conn. She d. Aug. 2, 1799 at the Hadlyme section of the Town of Lyme, Conn. They had seven known children: Julian (f, d. unm), Asenath (Selden) Vaill, Catherine Desire (Selden) Harvey, Maria (Selden) Waite, Ursula (d. unm.), Richard Ely Jr., Elizabeth (Selden) Douglass.
