The 1940 census finds Sarah Elizabeth Riley 95 is living with their widowed daughter Elmira Bregenzer 60 and her son Harold M 27 in Hopwell, Mercer NJ.

The funeral of John F Riley was held this afternoon from his late home, 321 Academy street with services at 2:30 o'clock at Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church. The sermon was preached by the Rev Charles H Elder. Mr Riley died Thursday after an illness of seven weeks. Death was due to cancer of the stomach. He was fifty-nine years old and had lived in Trenton all his life. He was employed for fourteen years by Murray, Griffith and Messier. The funeral was attended by a delegation from George Washington Camp OUA. Interment was made at Riverview Cemetery under the direction of D Taylor Ivins."
