Jonas B. Burkhart, 86

Jonas B. Burkhart, 86, of Brutus, died June 24, 1998, at Community Memorial Hospital in Cheboygan.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 26, at Brutus Mennonite Church. The Rev. James Gerber will officiate. Burial will be in the Mennonite Cemetery in Brutus.

Jonas was born Feb. 7, 1912, in Alberta, Canada, the son of Eli and Elizabeth (Brubacher) Burkhart.

At a young age, Jonas moved to Brutus with his family and attended the Woodland School.

On Oct. 19, 1940, Jonas married Ruth Snider in Brutus.

Along with his brother, they owned and operated their own dairy farm for many years. He then went to work as a carpenter for Mummert Construction for many years and retired in 1986.

Jonas loved to garden and make maple syrup. He was a member of the Brutus Mennonite Church.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Lashmit.

Anyone wishing to contribute in memory of Jonas may make contributions to the Brutus Mennonite Church.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Friday, June 26, at Brutus Mennonite Church.

Arrangements were handled by the Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey.
