Richard Leo Hellings, a 34-year resident of Spokane, died Friday at Sacred Heart Medical Center. He was 67.

Mr. Hellings was born August 12, 1918 in Lewiston, Idaho, and raised in Clarkston, Washington. He was the son of Leo & Eddeth Hellings. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in campaigns in Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, and Germany.

He joined Parts Wholesalers in Spokane in 1952. He set up a parts merchandising class for the automotive department of Spokane Community College, and headed the department until his retirement in 1981.

He was a life member of both Manito Lodge 246 F&AM and the Spokane Consistory of Scottish Rite Bodies.

Mr. Hellings is survived by his wife, Doris Hellings, at their home; three cousins, Frances Stumbaugh of Clarkston, Philip Schnabel, Jr. of Eugene, OR. and James Schnabel of Alexandria, VA; six nieces and one nephew.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Clarkston's Vineland Cemetery. There will also be a memorial service at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Alvin Chapel, Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home at N1306 Monroe.
