Husband William E. Geer

At about the age of one year, Julia was brought to the Trumbull family of Maiden Rock, WI, by a man named Lee. Julia's parents and the circumstances of her birth are unknown. The Trumbulls raised her, but never adopted her. At age 18, she married William E. Geer, a Civil War veteran. She had no children. She was dearly loved by her Trumbull nieces and nephews. She enjoyed pretty dishes and liked to display them in the window of her home so that passers by could see them. She also enjoyed flowers. She collected newspaper clippings on various topics, including her husband and herself, which have given William's descendants a glimpse into their life in Maiden Rock and also helped to preserve the history of the town. After 1905, Julia kept up a correspondence with William's daughter, Sarah McIntyre, by his first marriage in Virginia. In her letters, she referred to Sarah as "Daughter" and signed her letters "Mother." In her will, she left her estate to Sarah, but Sarah preceded her in death and Julia never changed the will, so Sarah's son, J. Martie McIntyre was not allowed to have the inheritance despite Julia's spoken wishes.
