Rev. Everett died Monday, Sept. 26, at The Methodist Oaks after an extended illness.
Rev. Everett was from a family of ministers. His father, the late Rev. F.G.S. Everett Sr. (Susie J. Wright) and all his brothers were ministers. He entered the ministry at the age of 24 and spent over 50 years as pastor of several churches in South Carolina. Widely regarded for his oratory and religious fervor, Rev. Everett ministered at Antioch Baptist Church in Jordan; Nazareth and St. Paul Baptist Churches in Elloree; Mount Calvary Baptist Church in St. Matthews; Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Cameron; and at Olive Grove and Mount Pisgah Baptist churches in Orangeburg. At his death, Rev. Everett was pastor emeritus at Mount Pisgah, where he had spent 34 years of his ministerial career. Under his leadership, the congregation expanded and completed an educational building dedicated in his honor. Rev. Everett served as the moderator of the Orthodox Baptist Association, the vice president of the Cooperative Baptist Convention and was a member of the Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina. He was a member of The Regional Medical Center Chaplain Corps and an active member of the Orangeburg Ministerial Alliance.

Rev. Everett was a dedicated public educator. For 23 years he worked at Elloree Training School as a teacher and principal. He also taught in the public schools of Orangeburg School District Five. He was a member of the Orangeburg-Calhoun Retired Education Association, the South Carolina Education Association and the National Education Association.

Actively involved in improving his community, Rev. Everett served on Orangeburg County Council for eight years (1976-1984). One of the first African-Americans elected to the council, Rev. Everett was most proud of his work as chairman of the Administrative Committee and its role in providing for indigent care at Orangeburg Regional Hospital. Often referring to himself as a "public man," Everett was a member of the Board of Trustees at Morris College, co-chaplain at South Carolina State University and board member of Habitat for Humanity. He served with the Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Foundation and South Carolina Board of Directors of the State Chambers of Commerce. Rev. Everett was a member of the NAACP, Lodge Number 402 of the Free and Accepted Masons, and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

Rev. Everett was born Oct. 25, 1925, in Live Oak, Fla., where his father served as president of Florida Memorial College. The family later moved to Vance. Everett graduated from Elloree Training School and earned the A.B. and M.S. degrees from South Carolina State University (College) and was awarded the Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Union Baptist Seminary, Birmingham, Ala. He served in the Army in World War II, earning the distinction as a sharpshooter, and received an honorary discharge in 1946.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Alethia Hilton Everett of Orangeburg; two children, Attorney Ralph B. Everett (Gwendolyn) of Alexandria, Va., and Brenda Everett Mitchell (Glenn) of Durham, N.C.; three grandchildren, Jason G. Everett (Heidi) of Fairfax, Va., Wayne Robinson and William Robinson of Durham, N.C.; a brother, Rev. T.O. Everett (Martha) of Sumter; and nieces, Violatte Everett Parham of Augusta, Ga., Pamela Combs Laws of Tallahassee, Fla.
