Alexander Thomas Davidson was the 11th and last child born to Jacob Ellis (1801-1884) and Mary Bowles (Winn) Davidson (1804-1883) while they were living in Washington, Jackson County, Missouri, on March 28th, 1846. The large family relocated to Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, California in 1852. Alexander helped his parents on the family's farm until he married Mrs. S.G. Fry, a mother with three children, on March 17th, 1872 in Sonoma County, California. He took care of Jenny (Halsey) Fry's three children from her prior marriage, Julia, b.1863, Phillip R., b.1866, and Susan, b.1867. All of the children had been born in California. Their mother was originally from Michigan. Jenny and the children moved with him onto a farm he settled in Analy, Sonoma County, CA. Interestingly, Analy only exists now in the Santa Rosa Community College in the city of Santa Rosa, Sonoma Co., CA. There are two buildings named after the town of Analy; one houses the art dept. and the other has multiple uses. By the time the census was taken for 1880 on June 25th of 1880, Alexander and Jenny Davidson had a daughter from their union, who they had named Zidana. She had been born in 1875. Another son, referred to as William Ellis in 1900, but referred to after that date and for the remainder of his life as Ellis Winn Davidson, was born Apr 1884. But by 1900, the marriage had ended and the couple had divorced. Alexander was living in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, boarding with Ephriam Harden and his family, still farming. By 1910, however, when the census was taken on Apr 23, 1910, Alexander was living in a home of his own in Santa Rosa, no longer farming or working at any occupation. He stated to the census taker that he had his own income. I would guess that it would be from his share of his parents' inheritance or the inheritance from another family member. Whatever the origin, it is nice to know that he was able to care for his own needs until he passed away the following year, on Nov 4th, 1911. He was buried at the Santa Rosa Cemetery with other family members. It has been difficult trying to locate his ex-wife or any of his children or step children. I would gladly add his wife and/or children to his memorial if given the information I need to do so. His son, Ellis Winn, died Jan 29, 1953, in Alameda County, CA., after a successful marriage to Mabel Mishler. He was the proud father of four children. May they all Rest in Peace.
