Charles Franklin Messner is the son of Charles Frederick Moessner and Susan J. Moessner (nee Roberts). He was listed as Charles Moessner, Jr., on his World War I Draft Registration card.

He married Elizabeth Margaret Cable (nee Augenstein), a divorcee, on July 15, 1922, in Rochester, Monroe County, New York. They never had any children together.

Charley and wife, known as Betty, lived in Rochester and spent summers in Florida. Later they lived in Florida permanently. Charles was an accountant before his retirement.
