He along with his two sons Mumford and Lefferts operated a lumber mill for about 50 years, from 1820 to 1870. The area became known as Bunceville because of the great business the mill was providing. Bunceville also became a port of call for many passenger steamers. Bunceville was eventually named Marysville, Michigan Zephaniah Bunce died at the age of 101 years.
