The funeral of Capt. Henry E. Sewall the grand old man of the St. Lucie river region was held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at his home with burial at the Waveland [All Saints]cemetery.

Captain Sewall died Sunday morning [August 1, 1925] at Daytona where he had gone with Mrs. Sewall to spend the summer. He was 79 years old. Subject to heart attacks he had not felt well enough to go back to Siecasset [Wiscasset], Maine, his boyhood home, this summer and had decided to remain in Florida. He was in a Daytona hospital when
he died.

Active pallbearers at the funeral were Carroll Dunscombe, W. I. Schuman, C. H. Taylor, Lee Willes, B. F.Turner and George McPherson. Honorable [honorary] pallbearers included, Charles Woodword, P. P. Cobb, E. L. Price, H. Letourneau, Fred Fee, C. C. Zanison, A. H. Harris, Percy Fuge, and F. W. Willes.

Captain Sewall was one of the direct descendants of Captain Hansen, to
whom the Hansen grant of 27 square miles was made by the King of Spain when Florida was a Spanish possession. Coming to Florida when the Hansen grant was divided, Captain settled on what became known as Sewall's Point. Approximately six square miles of the grant were given to him in the partition of the property, embracing Golden Gate, Port Sewall and Sewall's Point. Little by little he sold off his holdings, finally disposing of his fifty acre homesite to Otto Schaumfor $50,000.

Captain Sewall was born in Wiscasset, Maine. He was a son of a
shipbuilder. Following a seafaring life for a score of years, he was shipwrecked off Cape Hatteras nearly forty years ago. He gave up the life of a sea captain to go into the coal business. He gave that up to come to Florida to live.

Captain Sewall is survived by his widow. They had two children both of whom are dead.
