Funeral services for John C. Barker Sr., 86, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Ogg officiating. Burial will be in Dayton Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion and Wyoming National Guard. Vigil service will be 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Barker died Sept. 5, 2007, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 14, 1920, to Edwin and Matilda (Klinkosh) Barker on the family ranch near Parkman. He attended the Little Blue School on Barker Road and graduated from Sheridan High School. He enlisted in the Marine Corps, then served in the Army under Gen. Patton in Italy and Germany during World War II. After the war, he returned to the family ranch. He married Patricia Walker in 1954. They divorced. He married Annis Rideout in 1958. She died in 1996. Mr. Barker worked in construction for Peter Kiewit and helped build Interstates 90 and 25. He also worked 25 years for Big Horn Coal. He moved to Ranchester in 1987, then to Sheridan in 2003. He was a life member of Eagles No. 186, a member of the Catholic Church, and a member and past state commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an avid fisherman. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ed, in 2006. Survivors include two sons, John Jr. of Ranchester and Ed of Lake Oswego, Ore.; a sister, Louise Wilson of Sheridan; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
