John arrived in Ralpho Township about the age of 10 with his father Jacob and mother abt. 1776. Jacob had purchased 167 acres near the present St. Peter's Blue Church in 1789 and John would later add to this for a total of about 200 acres. A log cabin of massive square-hewn timbers was still standing on the original property in 1960's. They had emigrated from Germany abt. 1775-76. Jacob was a schoolmaster by training.
