John Pensyl was the only child of Jacob Pensyl. John Pensyl would marry Barbara Hinkle. She was born June 15, 1771 and died Dec. 13, 1831. Barbara (Hinkle) Pensyl's gravestone is located beside her husband's gravestone. Barbara Hinkle was a daughter of Philip and Catharina Hinkle. Barbara was born in Windsor Twp., Berks Co., PA.

John arrived in Ralpho Township about the age of 10 with his father Jacob and mother abt. 1776. Jacob had purchased 167 acres near the present St. Peter's Blue Church in 1789 and John would later add to this for a total of about 200 acres. A log cabin of massive square-hewn timbers was still standing on the original property in 1960's. They had emigrated from Germany abt. 1775-76. Jacob was a schoolmaster by training.

John and Barbara Pensyl's children were: Catherine (1791-1872), John H. (1796-1873), George L. (1799-1885), Leah (1802-1884), and Leonard (1804-1883).

It is unknown where Jacob's grave is located - possibly on the family farm. He was born abt. 1730-35 and died 1790-95. His wife's name is not known.

Jacob was a son of Johannes Pensel (b. abt 1705 d. abt. 1778) and Mary Pensel. Johannes Pensel emigrated in 1749 and settled in the Lower Smithfield area north of Easton, PA in Northampton Co., PA. They would later move to Wyoming Valley ( in Northeastern Pennsylvania) by the early 1770's (area of Lackawanna Co., Luzerne Co., and Wyoming Co., PA).

Johannes and Mary Pensel's children were: Jacob (b. 1730-35 d. 1790-95), Henry (b. 1730's, d. 1778), Elizabeth (b. 1738 d. 1843), John (b. 1740's, d. by 1810), and possibly William (b. 1740's, d. ?).
