His unit was part of the Northern Bombing Group and was based first on the coast of France and later at Eastleigh, 70 miles east of London. Bill was in Bordeaux, France, in September, 1918. His unit assembled, maintained, and flew aircraft, including the DeHaviland DH4 and DH6. Bill probably returned to the US with his unit, which departed Eastleigh December 1, 1918, and boarded the USS Leviathan in Liverpool the next day. He is listed in his unit's history The Battle of Eastleigh England, USNAF 1918.
Bill was a member of Boston BPOElks Lodge No. 10. He was living in Boston when he married.
