US Congressman. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1827, and commenced practice in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. After serving in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, he was elected as a Whig Congressman from Pennsylvania, serving from 1847 to 1849. He was defeated for reelection in 1848. He resumed the practice of law and was employed as a clerk in the office of the paymaster general in the War Department during the Civil War.
