Alice S. B. Summerrow was the daughter of Ann Elizabeth Loretz and Noah Summerrow.

She is listed in the 1880 US Census in Lincolnton, Lincoln Co., NC, as Alice Summerrow, single, 25, b. NC, occupation Boarding House; with Belle Shifford, 30, Servant.

She was with the Arlington Hotel in Charlotte, NC, in 1896.

She operated the Summerrow House (a boarding house located near the courthouse square in Newton started by her father in 1880) from 1897 to 1924.

She was listed in the 1900 US Census at the Buford Hotel in Charlotte, NC, as Alice Summerrow, 42, b. Sept 1851, single, no children, hotel stewardess.

She remodeled and enlarged the Summerrow House, adding 12 new rooms, a new office, and a new dining room, and changed the name to the Piedmont Hotel in 1904.

She was listed in the 1910 US Census in Newton, Catawba Co., NC, as Alice Summerrow, 58; William Self, bro-in-law, 75; Katherine Self, sis, 52; Edith Self, 25; Yount Family Annie Yount 23; Riley, 20; Ruby, 17; Willie, 13; Floyd E., 26; William S., 5m; and eleven additional boarders.

Her obituary was published in the Lincoln County News, Lincolnton, NC, August 18, 1924, page 1 column 6.
