BERNIE REX BERRINGER, SR., 81, a life long resident of Cherry Tree R. D. 2, died at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, December 6, 1966 in Miners Hospital, Spangler. A son of William and Laura Moore Berringer, he was born May 24, 1885 in Burnside Twp., Clearfield County. Mr. Berringer retired after 13 years of service with the Pennsylvania Department of Highways at Indiana. He was foreman 18 years for the Pennsylvania Coal and Coke Co. at Kinport and was employed for eitght years by Peale, Peacock and Kerr Coal Co., Emeigh. He is survived by the following children: Mahlon D., Blairsville; Mrs. Maynard (Octa) Lemmon and Hoyt C., both of Cherry Tree R. D. 2; Bernie Jr., and William L., both of Indiana; and Maurice L., Chambersburg, Pa.; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three brothers: Thomas, Sharon, Pa.; Arthur of Philadelphia; George of Indiana and one sister, Mrs. Thomas (Addie) Scollons, Barnesboro. His wife, Nessie Lela Stiffler Berringer Jun 3, 1961. A son, Walter, a brother, Max, and a sister Mrs. Daisy Shankle also preceded him in death. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Gwin Funeral Home in Cherry Tree where memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday. Mr. Ralph McPherson of the Uniontown Church of Christ will officiate and interment will be in Uniontown EUB Cemetery, Cherry Tree R. D. 2.
