Samuel Irwin was a son of Robert Erwin and Jean Currey. He married Matilda Purviance on March 02, 1808 in Cabarrus CO. N.C.

Samuel Irwin made his will on Sept. 14,1868 in Cabarrus Co., N.C. It was presented in Probate court in Concord, N.C. Oct 9,1868, Names in the document include: worldly goods to be divided amongst all my children, grandson Virgil McGinnis, to receive the same part his mother would get if living; daughter, Martha Clementines part to be placed in the hands of my nephew Charles H. Irwin and held in trust for the use and benefit of Martha until he determines that the husband of Martha is a "sober industrious and prudent man", son J. F. {John F. } Irwin to be executor: witnessed by
