L. Sherwood Blasdel, 88, of Canyon, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, in Amarillo.

Memorial services will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Don McDonald, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors.

Mr. Blasdel was born in Groom and raised in Amarillo. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1929, then went to work in the family oil and grain business. He attended Denison University at Granville, Ohio, graduating in 1934 with a major in economics and the honor Phi Beta Kappa.

He returned to Amarillo to work at the family business. He specialized in real estate and provided venture capital for small businesses.

Mr. Blasdel also was involved in cattle ranching, dairy farming, and motel operation and ownership. He retired in 1995.

He was active in the YMCA, Chamber of Commerce Highway Committee, Panhandle Plains Historical Society, Panhandle Plains Royalty Owner's Association, Panhandle Geological Society and Rotary. He was past president of the Blasdel
Family Association.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; his children, Gene, Mike, Terry and Christopher; a brother, Jimmy; and a granddaughter.

The family suggests memorials be to Sherwood and Janet Blasdel Scholarship Fund, Opportunity Plan Inc., P.O. Box 1035, Canyon, TX 79105.
