Little Edward White was a 1st generation Oregonian, born to Catherine Jane Burkhart (1832-1859) and Edward Newton White (1828-1916), both Oregon Pioneers who had come to the Oregon Territory in 1847 and 1845, respectively. Catherine and Edward had married July 2nd, 1848 in Linn County, Oregon Territory, settling onto their 640 acres near the future town of Tangent (SW of Albany). Little Edward was the fifth child borne of his parents' union; he had three older sisters, Cynthia, b.1851, Abagail, b.1854 and Jeanette, b.1857. There was also another child, listed only as "M.T.White", gender and dates of birth and death unknown to me. Little Edward, named after his father, was born Aug 12, 1859. Tragically, his mother died just six weeks after his birth, on Sep 26th, 1859. I don't know what happened to him other than the fact he didn't have a mother to give him the care and nourishment he needed. I'm sure that he was dearly loved by his father and sisters who were aggrieved by his death on Oct 11th, 1859, just as he was turning 2 months old. He was buried near his dear mother at Riverside Cemetery in Albany, Linn County, Oregon. His father went on to remarry on Aug 30, 1860, to Annie Woodsides (1828-1915). She would bare him eight children during their marriage. She died in 1915 and Edward died in 1916. Both are interred in unmarked graves at the Juniper Haven Cemetery at Prineville, Crook County, Oregon.

[His mother was a sister of my maternal great, great grandfather, Leander Columbus Burkhart (1823-1875).]
