Richard James "Jim" Tasakos, 64, Vancouver, Wash., and Twin Lakes, died Aug. 3, 2008, while residing in Twin Lakes. Richard was born in Seattle on Oct. 22, 1943. His parents, Edward John Tasakos and Alice Katherine Kenaston, preceded him in death along with his first wife and mother of his children, Kathy Tasakos.

Jim married Linda McGeachy on Sept. 1, 1990, in Coeur d'Alene and resided in Vancouver before retiring to Twin Lakes in June 2008.

Jim served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve where he was a helicopter mechanic and helicopter pilot. Jim was a veteran of the Vietnam and Operation Desert Storm conflicts.¬Ý

Upon leaving the service, Jim continued his career as a helicopter pilot and mechanic working for various governmental and private agencies as a pilot, test pilot, instructor and maintenance operations manager.

Jim grew up in Seattle, where he attended Seattle Prep before his commitment to the U.S. military. Jim lived and worked in Europe, the Middle East, South America, and the South Pacific Islands using Seattle and Vancouver as his home bases. Jim was looking forward to his retirement and being with family and friends.

Jim is survived by his wife, Linda McGeachy Tasakos of Twin Lakes; his sisters, Vivian Anderson of Reno, Nev., Jan Price of Seattle, Marsha Williams of Sacramento, Calif., and Charlene McKitrick of Seattle; sons and spouses: Charlie Tasakos of Seattle, James and Patricia Tasakos of Lake Stevens, Wash., Andrew Tasakos and Eric Owen of Seattle, and Thomas Tasakos of Kingston, Wash., Lexi Lazlo of Post Falls; and Jim's grandchildren: Gino, Tessa, Dimitri, Jasmine, Isabella, Thomas, Michael and Tara Tasakos.

Jim also had a very large extended family in Marathias, Greece, and an extended McGeachy family: Irv and Michele; Bryan, Val, Adam and Dale; Scott and Amy; Lisa and Joe Krivanek, and great-nieces Lila and Chloe.

A eulogy and memorial Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9. 2008, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Spirit Lake.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Southwest Washington Hospice or the American Cancer Institute.
