Ben was the son of James "Jim" Priddy and Sarah Tilley Priddy. He had one half-brother, Elijah, born in Kentucky during the Civil War. His father returned to North Carolina after the war with his son, Elijah, and married Sarah Tilley. Elijah and Sarah were the parents of five sons and two daughters including two sets of twin boys.
