Sophronia was the daughter of Thomas Hosea Ross and Sarah Catherine Traywick. She married W. Eli Griffin and John Monroe Morgan.

Mrs. Sophia Morgan, 66, passed away Wednesday morning at a Columbia hospital. Mrs. Morgan is survived by the following children: four sons, R.P. Morgan of Whitmire, John Morgan of Bessemer City, N.C., Rufus Morgan of Laurens, and Ray Griffin of Lake Waccamaw, N.C.; three daughters, Mrs. Lessie Holley of Pineville, N.C., Miss Marie Morgan of Atlanta, GA, and Mrs. M.H. Dempsey of Miami, Fla. She is also survived by two brothers: Joe and Tommie Ross of Union County, N.C., and two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Williams of Charlotte, N.C. and Mrs. Bessie Riggs of New York City. There are also twenty-two grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the residence of R.P. Morgan in Whitmire at 11 o'clock Friday morning with the Rev. Barbee in charge. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Chester. The McSwain Funeral Home is in charge.

The Whitmire Church of God purchased the site of the original church from Sophia Morgan in 1937.
