"Aunt Allie was a small woman who was sassy and spoke whatever was on her mind. The one thing I remember most about Aunt Allie was the corn-cob pipe she smoked. It fascinated me as a child seeing a woman smoking a pipe."
EDNA LEE (BRETCHES) PARKER, personal comments about her mother'a sister.

The following was recorded on Tuesday, July 29, 1997 at the home of Edna (Bretches) Parker:

Edna: "Mom claimed when they lived in Independence (Kansas). Mom (Cora Bretches) was very fond of Aunt Allie, her sister. She claimed after Aunt Allie died that she woke up one night and the rocking chair was going. She went in and asked if it was Allie. This is what Mom said, ""I want to go with you. I don't what to stay here"". Aunt Allie supposedly said, ""It's not your time for you to go yet. You can't come with me"". Mom said she saw the rocking chair rock after that. I don't know. I know Mom had a vivid imagination".

The Karr Hotel appears to be the scene of most of the romamtic weddings in this city. Another runaway couple came in last night from Kansas and were married this morning by Esquire Woodward. The newly married pair were cousins, the groom being A. J. Beathe and the bride Miss M.A. Beathe.
