The Wood families were active in both the military and in civic roles regarding the town's formation and growth. Arunah was one of several mortgagors for Franklin Academy at Malone. It was his son George who was one of the early principals of the academy. Arunah also served several times in the court of common pleas.
He settled early in what was the center of town on a parcel of land described as a lot. The location was suited to his occupation as cabinet maker and joiner. He married first: Relief Bailey, who bore two children with only one living to adulthood. He married second: Emeline Bartlett at Malone by Reverend Parmelee.
The Elm Street home which Arunah built was later purchased by B.S.W. Clark and when sold to Samuel Greeno the home was demolished (1887), in favor of a new home.
