Velma Osterloo, 95, Mitchell, formerly of Emery, died Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab.

She was born April 26, 1912 on the family farm south of Alexandria, SD to Gustav and Barbara (Bunger) Plagmann. She was baptized May 30, 1912 and confirmed July 18, 1926 at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Alexandria. She received her schooling from a country school near her farm home in Hanson County.

On February 23, 1937 she married Andrew L. Osterloo at her parent's home. They farmed south of Alexandria until 1941 and then moved to a farm south of Emery. In 1980 they retired and moved to Emery where they built a new home. In 2005 they moved to Avera Brady Assisted Living in Mitchell.

She was member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church. She was an avid vegetable and flower gardener and homemaker. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, needle work and doing many craft items to share with her family and friends. Velma's priority in life was her church and family.

She is survived by her husband, Andrew, one daughter, Janice Mendel and husband Jack of LaRue, TX ; one brother, Alvin Plagmann of Alexandria; two grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Jerald LaRon Osterloo, her parents, two sisters, Eldora Gust and Viola Gust and a sister-in-law, Delores Plagmann.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Alexandria.

Burial will be in the Emery Community Cemetery.
