Ervey was born the fourth child of William Henry Laine and Cora Belle Harvey Laine on the family ranch between Brighton and Perkins in Sacramento County. He and his first wife, Alice Fredericks Laine, who died in 1953, had two children, Margo Jean and Ervine Mary. He remarried to Georgia Holzer who passed away the month after Ervey. He owned and ran Laine Insurance Agency in Sacramento until his retirement. He will be remembered for his laughter, love of the outdoors and rich family life.
