Funeral services for James Benny Laird, 66, of Palestine will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel. Burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery. Mr. Laird died Sunday (Aug. 10, 2008) at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler. He was born Nov. 10, 1941, in Big Springs to James C. and Ruth McClahan Laird. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a Baptist. Mr. Laird loved spending time with his family. He was a computer programmer and continued programming after his retirement.Mr. Laird was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jo Carol; and brother, Mikol Laird. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Connie Laird of Palestine; son, Bryan Laird of Arlington, Va.; daughter, Cindy Laird of Palestine; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers are Frank Vaughn, Jackie Rickard and Jason Vaughn.Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio 44720.
