Champ Drew Ethridge, Sr., 84, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Monday, August 2, 2010. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 6, 2010 at Greenwood Baptist Church with burial in Middle Georgia Memory Gardens. The Rev. Glynn Cranford, the Rev. R. G. Blackwell, the Rev. Donnie Sutton and the Rev. Johnny McGowan will officiate.

Mr. Ethridge, son of the late Nora Franklin Ethridge and Dallas Van Ethridge, Sr. was born in Jones County and had lived in this area all his life. He served with the U. S. Marine Corps and was owner and operator of Bibb Auto Salvage from 1949 to 2008. Mr. Ethridge was a member of Shurlington Baptist Church where he was active in the life of the church serving as Chairman of Deacons, Trustee, on the Finance Committee and teaching many Sunday School Classes for Youth and Adults. He loved his church and his church family and as Shurlington Baptist became Greenwood Baptist he has continued to love and pray for his church and its ministry. Mr. Ethridge will be greeted in Heaven by three of his grandchildren, Amy Ethridge, Chad Ethridge and Monica Ethridge. His hobbies were dirt bike racing, hunting, fishing, singing and playing in the church band.

A devoted Christian husband, father and grandfather, he will be missed most by those he loved the most, his family…his wife of almost sixty-three years, Dezonna P. Ethridge of Macon; two sons, Champ D. Ethridge, Jr. (Charlotte) and Robert A. Ethridge, both of Macon; nine grandchildren, Amanda (Steve) Cleary of Register, Dezonna "Dawn" E. (Caleb) Parkerson of Jones County, Ashton Leah Ethridge of Macon, Adam Ethridge of Jones County, Carsen Ethridge of Rhine, Curtis Stephens, Jr. of Macon and Patrick Clifton of Jones County, Dallas Harper of Florida, and Sydney Schewe of Jones Co. and three great grandchildren, Harrison Cleary of Register, Scarlett Parkerson and Jadelyn Parkerson of Jones County and nieces, Glenda Bell of Nashville, Betty Edwards of Gordon, Dr. Robbie Ethridge of Oxford, MS, Nonie (Rusty) Dunn of Nashville, TN and Belinda Morgan of Macon and nephews, Van Ethridge, Robert Fountain of Macon, Kenneth Turner of Gordon, Jr. McDaniel of Gordon.
