SCRANTON- Laverne A. Berry, 77, Scranton, Kansas, passed away Monday, January 28, 2008, at a Topeka Care Facility. She was born November 23, 1930, at Arkansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Arkle W. and Annabell Overholt Harris.

She graduated from Arkansas City High School and Abilene Christian College. She also attended Allen County Community College at Burlingame.

She was a member of the Osage City Church of Christ.

She served on the Santa Fe Trail School Board. She was actively involved for many years with COF, the American Cancer Society, the Burlingame Community Library, Community Share and EKAN.

Laverne married Eldridge Scott Berry, November 26, 1953. He survives at the home.

Other survivors include three sons, Mark Berry, Osage City, KS, Fred Berry and his wife Lois, Scranton, KS, and Lloyd Berry and his wife Linda, Carbondale, KS: two brothers Harold Harris and his wife Louise, Midland, TX, and Wayne Harris and his wife Wanda, Geuda Springs, KS; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Arlyss Harris and a granddaughter, Lori Berry.

Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 31, 2008, at the Osage City Church of Christ, 504 Ellenwood, Osage City, KS. Inurnment in Scranton Cemetery will be at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Burlingame Community Library, and sent % Carey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 196, Burlingame, KS 66413.
