British General and politician. He was a British military officer and Whig politician. He served with the 3rd Guards at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. The second son of Thomas Anson, 1st Viscount Anson and Anne Margaret, daughter of Thomas Coke, 1st Earl of Leicester. He served at an early age in the Napoleonic Wars before being appointed Commander-in-Chief in India, 1856. He later sat as Member of Parliament for Great Yarmouth from 1818 to 1835 and served as storekeeper of the Ordnance under Prime Minister, William Lamb (Lord Melbourne) from 1835 to 1841. He died of cholera, at the age of 59, during the march against Indian rebels during the seige of Delhi. He was originally buried in Karnal, India, before his body was exhumed and taken back to England.
