Herbert enlisted in the Army in December 1942. The last rank found for him was 2nd Lieutenant. He was single and from Denver, Colorado.

The photo shown was taken in Texas in front of the Rice Institute in February 1944 during time off from military training. The photo is from the personal collection of my father who was a friend of Herbie's from Officer Candidate School in Camp Davis, N. C., being commissioned in Nov. 1943. Herbert was killed a short time later, in France. His mother Mabel wrote on a Christmas card to my parents in December 1950 that Herbert had been gone for six years, that month.
