Rev. Albert M. Green, age 94 of Greenville, passed away at Saturday, August 9, 2008 at home of his grandson, Craig Cooper in Edwardsville, Illinois.
Albert Marcellus Green, the son of John Wiser and Ella May (Marcellus) Green, was born February 9, 1914 in Emporia, Kansas. Albert grew up in Emporia, attended the local schools and graduated from Lother High School in 1934. He worked for the Food Town Grocery there. He attended Ottawa University and later Greenville College and pastored the Climax Free Methodist Church, Williamsburg Free Methodist Church and Mound Valley Free Methodist Church for six years there in Kansas. The family moved to Greenville on August 20, 1951 where Mr. Green worked at the Brokerage, IGA, Annex Clothing for 24 1/2 years, drove the food van for the public schools for 7 years and worked for Jansen's Clothing store. He worked after hours for Denny Donnell at the Donnell Funeral Home from 1953 working here until 2007, 54 years. He was greeter at Grandpa's store for many years continuing at Value City until February 2008 when he was past 94 years old. He and Geraldine pastored the Sorento Free Methodist Church for 4 years, Pittsburg Free Methodist for 5 years and the Coffeen Free methodist Church for 13 years.
Albert was united in marriage to Geraldine Emley on January 8, 1936 in Emporia, Kansas. They enjoyed over 72 years of marriage until her passing earlier this year on May 8, 2008.
Albert is preceded in death by his 2 daughters: Odessa Cooper on March 20, 1991 and Fern A. Ulmer on March 20, 1976. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Jamie Vilas Green in infancy.
He is survived by his loving grandchildren: Terry (Kay) Cooper of Reno, NV., Scott (Nora) Cooper of Edwardsville, Craig (Nancy) Cooper of Edwardsville, Judy, Mrs. Wayne Stief of north of Greenville, Glenda, Mrs. David Bell of Alton, Denise, Mrs. Rick Estes of Enfield, and 14 great grandchildren.
Albert was raised in the Friends Church "Quaker" where Albert often led the Singing, was a member of the Greenville Free Methodist Church and often attended the St. Paul's Free Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Donnell - Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Herbert H. Coates and Rev. Brian Hartley officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery.
