Harold Richard Pettit died July 17, 2008, at Life Care Center of Port Orchard.

He was 82.

He was born March 23, 1926, in Cashmere to James and Florence (Hoyt) Pettit.

He married Bernice Marie Smith on Feb. 6, 1960, in Stanwood.

She preceded him in death in 2002.

He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as an electrician. He retired after 20 years in the U.S. Army and then the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean and Vietnam wars.
He enjoyed gardening, reading western novels and many other activities.

He is survived by daughters Penny Josephsen of Sedro Woolley, Elizabeth (and husband Jim) Davidson of Port Orchard, Deanna (and husband Ray) Hoyt of Olalla, and Kathy Duane of Port Orchard; sons Randy (and wife Karen) Duane of Seattle and David Pettit of Port Orchard; brothers Jim, Ralph and Robert Pettit; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A graveside ceremony was held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent.
