Dance teacher and choreographer.
His archives placed in the Huntington Library, the landmark San Marino Research institution. He was a white man, founded what is believed to be the first black classical ballet company in the United Sates, the "First Negro Classic Ballet", in 1946. His archives contain more than 270 items, including rehersal and production photographs, newspaper clippings, and musical scores, as well as set and costume designs and correspondence. His First Negro Classic Ballet lasted for more than ten years during which time he comissioned original ballets, including a black version of Cinderella set to an original score by the African-American composer Claudius Wilson, along with sets designed by Robert Usher, an art director at Paramount Studios, Hollywood, California.
