WAZORKO, Thomas Louis Community leader and longtime school board member Thomas Louis Wazorko, 61, husband of MaryEllen Fillo Wazorko, died Tuesday, (March 25, 2008) after a heroic battle against pancreatic cancer. Born in New Britain, he was a third generation Plainville resident, the son of Barbara (Schubert) Wazorko and the late Thomas T. Wazorko. He was a decorated U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War. He graduated from Plainville High School, Hartford Institute of Accounting, and held advanced banking degrees from the American Institute of Banking and Brown University. Not willing to settle for just living in a community, Tom, the longest consecutive term-serving member of the Plainville Board of Education, was passionate about the value of participating in a community, and did so by being actively involved in numerous non-profit and community agencies in the state and in Plainville. He served unselfishly on numerous organizations including the American Heart Association, the March of Dimes, the American Cancer Society, the Boys Scouts of America, the Girl Scouts of America and the American Institute of Banking. He was appointed by the late Gov. Ella Grasso to the former Central Connecticut Housing Council. He was also active in the Plainville Chamber of Commerce, the former Community Chest, the Plainville Little League where he coached those great Tigers, the Plainville United Way, the F.T. Wheeler School PTO, and the Plainville High School Athletic Backers Club. An accomplished athlete and musician who was an unwavering New York Yankees and Rolling Stones fan, he was also a former member of the Plainville Rotary Club and United Methodist Church. He was also a longtime member of the Plainville Democratic Town Committee, serving as treasurer for nearly three decades. He also served as campaign treasurer for several local state legislators, served on the town's Charter Revision Commission, and was currently the town treasurer in Plainville. A member of the Plainville School Board since 1984, he served several terms as chairman. A popular and fair board member, he worked tirelessly and competently for the district's educational and facility needs. His legacy is a lasting, positive impression that will ultimately benefit future generations in Plainville. A longtime employee of the former Bristol Savings Bank, he was the manager for many years at the Plainville office before being appointed a commercial vice president . For the last several years, he was a mortgage broker at EFS Mortgage in East Hampton. Besides his wife, and mother, he leaves his very cherished children; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher Wazorko, chairman of the Plainville Town Council, and his wife Raegan Armata of Plainville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tabitha Wazorko Manafort and her husband Justin Manafort, and Quinn Wazorko Christopher and her husband Ted Christopher, all of Plainville. He was predeceased by a daughter, Samantha Paige Wazorko. "Pop-Pop" also leaves four adored grandchildren that he will always watch over, Olivia Paige Wazorko, Samantha Lena Manafort, Lillian Elizabeth Wazorko and Justin A. Manafort Jr. He also leaves his mother-in-law, Mary Fillo of Plainville; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joseph and Mary Ellen Fillo of Massachusetts; three nieces and a nephew; a special uncle, Anthony Yacobellis of Plainville; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Jack Witkin of New Hampshire; many cousins, and a circle of priceless friends who were part of his best memories from the golf course, the basketball court, the beach, vacations and his home and theirs, and who provided unwavering support and comfort over the past few months. He was a good, kind man, who, in both his personal and professional life, quietly, but effectively and with a smile, did much for others without expecting anything in return. His greatest pleasure was in watching his children follow in his formidable footsteps. Funeral service will be held at United Methodist Church, 56 Redstone Hill, Plainville on Saturday March 29, at 10 a.m. Calling hours are Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St. Plainville.
