Clint Troutman was the son of Daniel Absolum and America (Pratt) Troutman. He grew up in Rich Valley, Smyth County, Virginia, and attended the Ellendale School. He followed his sweetheart's family to Missouri in 1909 and married her, Mary Ann Waggoner, on Oct. 27, 1909. He and Mary had three children while they lived in Missouri: Neville America (1910), James Gordon (1911), and Carl Justin (1912). They moved to Stanton County Nebraska where their fourth child, Verne Clinton (1914), was born and then to Wayne County where their fifth child, Virginia Ovella (1916), was born. Clint was a farmer; he also sang, played guitar, and cut hair. He called himself a "jack of all trades and master on none." He was a kind and gentle person loved by his wife, children, in-laws, and grand-children. He died as a result of prostate cancer in the summer of 1949.
