Martha (Exarchos) Souliotis, 85, of Worcester, beloved mother of Thomas P. Souliotis of Boston, and Athena (Souliotis) Babalas and her husband Charles Babalas of Brockton, loving grandmother of Emily Babalas of Boston, Diane Babalas and husband Greg Knollmeyer and adoring great-grandmother of Tessia Martha Knollmeyer of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away in Brockton from a long-term illness on August 14th. Her beloved husband of 35 years, Peter Souliotis of Worcester passed away in 1978. Martha is survived by her devoted sister, Bassiliki Mitsis of Athens, Greece, and sister-in-law, Grace Souliotis of Hyannis as well as several nieces and nephews here and in Greece. A sister, Barbara Kasetas and brother, Grigorios Exarchos of Athens, Greece predeceased her.

Martha was born is a small town in northern Greece on July 23, 1923 and lived in Athens before marrying in 1947 and emigrating to Worcester with her husband. For over 20 years Martha worked for a coat manufacturer as a hand-stitcher and after retiring, devoted herself to her grandchildren and family and the many activities she loved. She was an accomplished cook and baker of Greek foods, pastries, and breads and enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and frequently volunteered with the baking at church and as a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society. Martha was a faithful steward of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and also enjoyed visiting various parishes in the Boston diocese to celebrate saints' feast days and holy days.


The funeral was Monday, August 18th from O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a service at 11:00 AM in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial was in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours were Sunday, August 17th from 4:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. Babalas & DeMarkles Funeral Home, 336 Broadway, Cambridge directed arrangements. Martha will be sadly missed by her devoted family and dear friends. The family asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral – Family Center Fund, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
