He was a PFC in the 30th Infantry Division when he was Killed in Action near Selgersdorf, Germany.
He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for leading a patrol into enemy territory on 26 November 1944. The same day, he was also awarded the Silver Star Medal for destroying enemy tanks. The citation reads: Pfc Adams, with a companion, knocked out two tanks and held four others at bay with a bazooka during a 30th Division action in Germany November 26. The Germans had struck back at Pfc Adams's company with six tanks and supporting infantry. Using a bazooka, Pfc Adams and his comrade advanced to meet the onslaught and fought them off until artillery caused the remaining tanks to withdraw. 'Their courageous action was primarily responsible for the repulse of the counterattack.
