Reuben E. Appleby Sr., 85, formerly of Orbisonia, but more recently of York, died at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 1992, in the York Hospital.

Funeral services were held Feb. 24 at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia. The Rev. Myers Kimmel officiated. Interment was made in Cherry Grove Cemetery, Three Springs RD.

Born April 16, 1906, in Shade Gap, he was a son of the late Robert and Mary Jane (Murphy) Appleby. He was married to the former Pearl Mary Madden.

Surviving are his wife, at Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia; three sons: Rueben E. Appleby Jr. of Harrisburg, Lawrence F. Appleby of York, and James N. Appleby of Lebanon; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving is a brother, Jesse Appleby of St. Thomas.

One brother and five sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Appleby was a member of the Rockhill Church of the Brethren, Rockhill Furnace.

He was employed at Bethlehem Steel Corp. in Steelton, retiring in 1969, after 30 years of service.
