Lawrence P. Benton, 78, of Panama City, passed away on Sunday April 29, 2007 at a local nursing home. Mr. Benton was born on June 23, 1928 in Fitchburg, MA to the late Paul F. and Winefead R. Parker Benton. He served in the United States Air Force for 24 years where he achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a very proud member of the Shriners, Masons, and the Yorkrite. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Alice; Two step-sons, Alan Broxson and his wife Anita of Houston, TX and Joseph Broxson and his wife Chris of Houston, TX; a step-daughter Katherine Lynn and her husband Jeff of Lynn Haven FL; five grandchildren, Dawn, Summer, Casey, Rae, and Kristen; one great-grandchild, Kolsen; one sister, Norma Prentice; a niece and a nephew Jill Koroskeny and David Prentice. Funeral services will be conducted today, May 2, 2007 at 11:00 AM in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens with Masonic rites and full military honors. Asked to serve as Honorary Pall Bearers are; Art Lovelace, Dr. Marion Mathews, Dr. Angel Nunez, Chuck Kurth, Ronnie Miller, and Ron Baas. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shaddai Temple Crippled Children Fund or to Covenant Hospice in memory of Mr. Benton.
