Mr. Guy S. Abel, Jr., 88, of Tampa, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2008, surrounded by his family. The son of Guy S. Abel and Ellie Knight, he was born December 7, 1919 and raised in Fairmont, W. Virginia.
He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He retired from Edgewood Arsenal, Baltimore MD where he continued to serve his country after WWII. He was a member of the VFW for 65 years, most recently Post 424 and American Legion Post 111.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Alice Shahan.
He is survived by his sons, Carl N. Abel, Larry E. Abel and wife Deanna, Michael K. Abel and wife Christine Guntert, his daughter, Patricia A. Guarino and husband Tony Guarino, Jr. He has 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
He has many brothers and sisters- Betty Rutherford in Tampa and in W. Virginia he has Maryanne, Elenore, Elizabeth, Desi Pearl, Linda Lou, Alberta, Janet and brother Bobby.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, August 25, at MacDonald Funeral Home, 10520 N. Florida Ave., Tampa. Graveside services with full military honors will be Tuesday August 26, at 1 p.m. at Hillsboro Memorial Gardens in Brandon (Route 60 just east of I-75). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lifepath Hospice, 12973 Telecom Parkway, Suite 100, Temple Terrace, FL 33637.
