"William C. Hewitt, 75, a lifelong resident of Galien, died at 5 p.m. Thursday [May 15] at his home a mile and a half north of Galien. Born March 14, 1872 in Galien the son of the late John and Louella Hewitt, he married Elva Boyle on Dec. 31, 1896. Mr. Hewitt, who was a retired farmer, was a member of the Woodmen of America lodge, the Odd Fellows lodge of Dayton, and the Rebekah Lodge of Galien. Surviving are his wife, Elva, two sons, Ray of Galien and Fred of Buchanan, three grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Ida Markley of Washington Croffing, Pa., Mrs. Mabel Snapp of South Bend, and Miss Alta Hewitt of South Bend, and three brothers, Bert of South Bend, A. J. of Princeton, Ill., and Floyd of Pasadena, Calif."
