Lucy Myra Smith, daughter of Daniel M. and Frances A. Smith, was born at Wyanet, Bureau County, Ill., on October 7th 1869, and passed away as the bells were tolling the coming of the New Year, Jan. 1st, 1944, at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 24 days. In 1882, she moved with her parents to Fairmont, Nebraska and later to Carleton, where she attended the public school. After graduation, she taught in several of the district schools.
Having a keen desire for knowledge, she later attended Chadron Academy, Fremont Normal, Peru Normal, Doane College, the University of Colorado, and the Agricultural College of Corvallis, Oregon.
While a student at Doane College, she acted as assistant librarian.
In 1896, she was united in marriage to Alonzo M. Clark. To this union was born one son, Donald M., who passed to his reward in 1924, while a student at Leland Stanford University.
She later continued her profession as a teacher, teaching in Glenlock, Lusk, and Gillette, Wyo., and in a mission school at Sonora, Mexico.
After this she served, first as deputy County Clerk, and later as County Clerk of the newly formed County of Campbell, in Wyoming.
While holding this office, she copied all the records pertaining to the new county.
Following this, she entered into another period of her life when her husband, A. M. Clark was elected Secretary of State for Wyoming, and later, thru the death of Governor Emerson, he became acting Governor. Like the good wife of the 31st chapter of Proverbs, she maintained a comfortable home for her husband, and entertained her many friends.
In 1888, Mrs. Clark confessed the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior, and for many years was a member of the Carleton Methodist Church. Throughout her busy life, she found time to serve her Master in various religious activities, such as a teacher in the Sunday School, and a worker in the women's societies. She was also active in the Eastern Star.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Alonzo M. Clark; two brothers, Arthur C. Smith of Carleton, and Herbert W. Smith of Palo Alto, Calif.; also one sister, Mrs. Lora Frances Smith of Glendo, Wyo., together with a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the shrader Funeral Home at Cheyenne, Wyo., and at the Methodist Church at Carleton, Nebraska.

Burial was in the family plot in the Carleton Cemetery.
