WARE
Mrs. Elizabeth Williams Ware, widow of the late Johnson Ware, died Saturday morning, May 26, at the home of her daughter, Miss Lizzie Ware.
She was buried at Mt. Pleasant Sunday morning, the funeral service being conducted by her pastor, Rev H.W. Van Hook, assisted by Rev T.J. O'Neil, Rev R.L. Vaughn and Rev J.H. Havens.
Mrs. Ware was born in Jackson county, near Wade, November 25, 1837, and was therefore, Ninety-six years and six months old, and perhaps the oldest person in Jackson county. She was the daughter of Philip Williams and Elizabeth Williams. She was married to Johnson Ware prior to the war between the states.
She is survived by two sons and three daughters, J.P. and J.J. Ware of Vancleave, Mrs. Joe Reilly of Escatawpa, Miss Ella Ware of Hattiesburg, and Miss Lizzie Ware of Vancleave. Her eldest son, S.M. Ware, died a year ago. There are also nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and one brother and one sister.
Mrs. Ware was a woman of remarkable intelligence and strength of character. She kept up with events of the day, reading almost the entire contents of the daily papers each day until a short while before her death, her only physical defect being deafness.
She was a devout member of the Methodist church, a devoted mother and a loyal friend; "Mother Ware," as she was lovingly called by many, will be sadly missed. - S.V.
