Marvin was born August 28, 1911, in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County to Lewis and Louise (Woratschka) Altmann. He married Helen M. Reitter on November 16, 1936, at the St. George Catholic Church in St. George, MN. After marriage they farmed in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County until 1958 when they moved to Klossner. He owned and operated the Klossner Ballroom from 1960-1969. He also worked at the Burdick Grain Elevator in New Ulm until retiring in 1976. He was a member of the St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Lafayette.
Survivors include his daughters and sons in law, Shirley and Bill Krohn of Lafayette, Bonnie and Wally Bastian of Klossner, Margaret and Tom Albrecht of Pierz, MN, Sharon Madsen of LaCrescent, MN, Helen and Tom Fromm of Waukesha, WI; Lois and Bob Schneider of Reeseville, WI; and Norma Altmann Bergseth and Del Borgseth of Detroit Lakes, MN; son, Howard Altmann of Klossner; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Delores and Charles Kranz of Minneapolis, MN, Bernice Fletcher of Roseville.
He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Altmann on September 23, 1992; a daughter, Joanne Imker on January 2, 1990; a son in law Bob Madsen on January 8, 1996; a brother, Leander Altmann; and sisters, Viola Gleisner and Carol Farrell.
