Nolen Reid Bynum, Jr, age 60, of Palestine, Texas died August 25, 2008, at Palestine Regional Medical Center. Burial at Land of Memory Cemetery was under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home. He was born Feb. 6, 1948, in National City, California to Nolen Reid Bynum Sr. and Naoma Ruth Timmons Bynum. He had lived in Palestine since 1995 and was a rig supervisor for Key Energy. He served in the US Army as a member of the 173rd Airborne (Cowboys) during Vietnam and his awards included Parachutist Badge, Army Commendation Medal with V-device and 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, Aircraft Crewman Badge, Air Medal with V-device and 20 Oak Leaf Clusters, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Purple Heart. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Bynum always put the needs of others ahead of his own. Survivors include his mother, Naoma Bynum; wife, Brenda Bynum; sons, Nolen Reid Bynum and wife Robin, and Wesley Bynum currently serving in the U.S. Navy; daughters, Christy Hubbard and husband J.P., Shiela Gul and husband Zubair, Katrina Parker and husband Bryan, and Daisy Bandle; step-son, Frank Countryman; step-daughter, Helen Dunlap and husband Brian; sisters, Nelda Leslie and husband Ralph, and Norma Kastler and husband Charles; eight grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren.
