Enlisted in Co D, 63rd Regiment, NC Troops (5th Regiment NC Cavalry. "Enlisted in Guilford County July 18, 1862 for the war. Present or accounted for through April 1863. (A. E. was wounded and drew a pension for his service until his death. S.E.S)" qtd in "The Direct Descendents of Joseph Myers to William Myers and His Descendents," compiled by Samuel E. Sebastian, N. Wilkesboro, NC, 1972.
The following is a quote from a Myers genealogy compiled by Samuel E. Sebastian: "We find Rev. A. E. Myers' name mentioned in several of the old church minutes as pastor. In 1866, he along with Rev. Eli Grimes and Rev. S. P. Smith, preached a mass funeral at Zion Church in Haymeadow for the three Sebastians killed by the Bushwhackers on the Bell Mountain. The minute reads as follows: 'August the first Saturday, 1866. The church met at Zion. After preaching, the members took their seats in order for the reception of members when Martha Harrold came forward with a letter from Cross Roads Church. She was given the right hand of fellowship. In compliance to the request of New Covenant Church, appointed S. H. Grooks and William E. Reynolds to aid in settling a difficulty in same church. Elizabeth Sebastion, Lewis Sebastian, William Sebastian, Charles Sebastian and Emily Hutchinson's little daughter's funeral was preached on the following day by S. P. Smith, Eli Grimes and A. E. Myers.' (This is the only instance I have found of a funeral of this number being preached at the same time. S.E.S.)"
A. E. Myers died of typhoid fever in 1906.
