The father of Darius Harrison Bush. John's wife did not come with him to Wisconsin and is not buried here. She, according to an old family legend, was a Native American from one of the tribes in northeast New York State. DNA tests within some direct family descendents seem to refute this story.

Death of John E. Bush

Mr. John E. Bush died at the residence of his son, D. H. Bush, in the town of Hampden, on Monday, Mar. 16th, aged 89 years. He had been infirm for several years.
Mr. Bush was born in Rutland, Vermont on March 7, 1802. His family removed to Cayuga county, N. Y., when he was about 13 years old, afterwards removing to Niagara county and subsequently to Erie county, Penn. Mr. bush came to Wisconsin about 1850, and had since resided in Columbia county.
His funeral was from the Hampden cemetery on Tuesday, Rev. Thos. Sharpe. of Fall River, preaching the funeral sermon.
