Ferdie was born on January 26, 1919, to Egil and Irva (Stubson) Forfang on the family farm east of Hallock. He was baptized and confirmed at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and attended Riverside school. On November 4, 1944, he married Gloria Johnson at Hallock. Together they farmed a small grain farm, raised four daughters and were very active in the Two River Lutheran Church until the congregation dissolved in 1971. He and Gloria then became active in the Grace Lutheran Church of Hallock. Ferdie served on several boards, including the Hallock Farmers Store Board, both Hallock and Lake Bronson elevator boards, the Resource Conservation and Development Board, and the Soil Conservation Service for 31 years. Ferdie was director of the Hallock Farmers Mutual Insurance Company for 27 years and served as president for seven years. He retired from farming in 1985 but remained active on these boards. Ferdie and Gloria had been spending their winters in Mesa, AZ, since 1975.
Family members include his wife, Gloria; four daughters, Cheryl of Warren, Jan (Kim Cairney) of Madison Lake, Beth (Dan Doherty) of St. Louis Park, and Kelly of Bloomington; six grandchildren; and two sisters, June Lund and Margaret (Emory) Cameron both of Hallock.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Gary Cameron.
